History

Kogushi Station opened on 22 April 1914 as a stop on the Chōshū Railway, in what is today the city of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Chōshū Railway was nationalised in 1925 and the line renamed the San'in Main Line in 1933. Located 650.2 kilometres from the line terminus at Kyoto, Kogushi has one side platform and one island platform connected to the station building by a footbridge. The station passed to JR West at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. It is unstaffed today, serving primarily local residents and travellers along the western end of the San'in line.
