History

Mine Station opened on 15 September 1916 as Yoshinori Temporary Stop (吉則停留場) on the Mine Light Railway (美祢軽便鉄道), between Isa (today Minami-Ōmine) and Shigeyasu, in what is today the city of Mine, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was elevated to a full station as Yoshinori on 1 June 1920 with nationalisation of the line. The station was renamed Mine on 1 October 1963 to align with the city of Mine, which had been incorporated in 1954. With the 1 April 1987 JNR privatisation the station passed to JR West. It is the principal station for the city of Mine on the Mine Line, 19.4 kilometres from the line junction at Asa.

Notes

The Mine Line has been out of service since 1 July 2023, when flooding of the Asa River destroyed bridges and washed out roadbed across the line; replacement buses have substituted for trains since 4 July 2023, and the line has not reopened.
