History
Kamogō Station opened on 28 February 1924 on the Japanese Government Railways Kisei West Line in what is now Kainan city, Wakayama Prefecture. The line was renamed the Kisei Main Line in 1959 once the through route was completed. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. The surrounding area includes the former Shimotsu town hall, Japan National Route 42, Kainan Municipal Hainan-Shimotsu High School, and several other local schools. Today it is served by Kinokuni Line trains as a quiet local stop close to the coast.
