History
Kami-Kagawa Station opened on 26 March 1925 when the privately operated Ube Railway extended its line from Ogōri (today Shin-Yamaguchi) to Hon-Ajisu (today Ajisu), in what is now the Kagawa district of Yamaguchi city. The Ube Railway was nationalised in May 1943, becoming the Ube Higashi Line, and the line was renamed the Ube Line on 1 February 1948. Parcel handling ended on 15 December 1960 and the station was destaffed on 1 October 1971. JR West took over at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station has no building, only a single ground-level side platform with a small shelter and direct access from the road.

Notes
The Ube Line and San'yō Main Line run nearly parallel between Shin-Yamaguchi and Kami-Kagawa, but the San'yō Main Line's Kagawa Station is about a kilometre south-west — the same district is served by two stations on different lines.
