History

Yoshimi Station opened on 22 April 1914 on the Chōshū Railway, a privately operated line that was nationalised in 1925. The route was redesignated as the San'in Main Line in 1933. The original freight siding linked to the inbound track toward Kyoto persisted long after freight handling ceased, and was finally removed around February 2008; the former freight platform now carries a bicycle parking lot. With the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station came under the aegis of the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and is currently unstaffed.
