History

Hon-Yura opened on 3 December 1900 as Ajisu Station (阿知須駅) when the privately operated San'yō Railway extended its line from Mitajiri (today's Hōfu) to Asa. The San'yō Railway was nationalised on 1 December 1906 and the route became the San'yō Main Line at the line-naming reform of 1909. On 1 June 1950 the station was renamed Hon-Yura and the original name was simultaneously transferred to today's Ajisu Station on the Ube Line. Freight handling ceased on 1 May 1961, parcel handling on 1 February 1985, and the station became unstaffed the same day. The 1 April 1987 JNR privatisation placed it under JR West, and ICOCA fare cards became usable on 1 April 2023.

Notes

The station's 1950 rename was a straight three-way swap: today's Ajisu Station on the Ube Line had been opened in 1924 as Hon-Ajisu, so when this station gave up the 'Ajisu' name the Ube Line halt picked it up the same day.
