History
Awa-Akaishi Station, in Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture, opened on 15 December 1916 as Akaishi Station, an intermediate stop on the privately operated Anan Railway between Chūden and Hanoura. The line was nationalised on 1 July 1936, becoming part of the JGR Mugi Line, and the station was renamed Awa-Akaishi at the same time. It became simply commissioned in April 1963, then lost freight on 1 June 1970 and parcels on 1 October 1972, after which it operated as an unstaffed simply commissioned halt. JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 transferred operations to JR Shikoku, and a second-generation station building was completed on 21 March 2015. Simple commission ticket sales ended on 31 December 2021. The station carries the line number M07.

Notes
The former wooden station building has been removed, leaving only a waiting shelter beside the platform; a cluster of cherry trees by the tracks blossom each spring.
