History

Iyo-Hōjō Station opened on 28 March 1926, when the then-Sanyo Line of the Japanese Government Railways was extended westward from Kikuma into what is now Matsuyama. Operated by JGR and later JNR, the station served as the principal station of the former city of Hōjō until that municipality merged with Matsuyama on 1 January 2005. Freight handling ended on 8 November 1971, with parcel service following on 14 March 1985. JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 transferred operations to JR Shikoku. A "Midori's Ticket Machine Plus" began service on 15 March 2021, with remote operator assistance added on 1 April 2021; the staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi window closed on 31 May 2021. The station is at 176.9 km from Takamatsu and carries number Y48.
