History

Takihama Station opened on 21 June 1921 as an intermediate stop on the then-Sanuki Line, when the line was extended westwards from Iyo-Doi to Iyo-Saijō in what is now Niihama, Ehime Prefecture. Originally operated by Japanese Government Railways and later JNR, the station lost freight on 1 June 1970 and parcels on 8 November 1971, becoming unstaffed at the same time. JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 transferred operations to JR Shikoku. The opening-era station building survives in modified form, retained as a waiting room and small retail space. A renovated office once housed the Willy Winkie bakery and, more recently, the "Kenkō Shoku Kōbō Maru" health-food shop. The station carries the number Y28.
