History
Tokiwa Station opened on 1 June 1925 as a halt on the Ube Railway when the line was extended toward Kusae. The Ube Railway was nationalised in 1943, becoming the Ube Higashi Line, and the stop was upgraded to a full station at the same time. The line was renamed the Ube Line on 1 February 1948, and the station became unstaffed in 1971. Following the 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, operation passed to JR West. In 2020 the original station building and waiting room were demolished and replaced by a small shelter on the platform.

Notes
The platform sits within sight of the runway at Yamaguchi Ube Airport, so passengers waiting for trains hear aircraft taking off and landing nearby.
