History

Abeyamakōen sits in Yukawa-Shinmachi 4-chōme, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu, on JR Kyushu's Nippō Main Line; its station code is JF05. Japanese National Railways opened it as a provisional halt on 9 March 1987; it was initially unstaffed, with tickets sold from a tent. When JR Kyushu took over with the privatisation on 1 April 1987 the halt was upgraded to a full station. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 22 September 2000, SUGOCA contactless ticketing began on 1 March 2009, and the Midori-no-Madoguchi staffed counter closed on 11 March 2022. Operation had long been contracted to JR Kyushu Service Support, but the station was brought back under JR Kyushu's direct operation on 1 October 2023.

Notes

When Abeyamakōen opened in 1987 demand outpaced the temporary facilities, so the operator began selling tickets from a tent on the platform before erecting a prefabricated station building and then the present depot.
