History

The stop opened in 1911 under the Matsuyama Electric Tramway as 'Shōhin-Chinretsujo-mae' ('Goods Display Hall'). In 1944 it was renamed 'Kenchō-mae' (Prefectural-Office-mae). In 1949 the line was double-tracked and rerouted; previously the stretch in front of the courthouse had been so narrow that the Jōnan Line was single-tracked through it. Today the stop is on the Iyotetsu Jōnan Line and carries number 20.
