History

Ebitsu Station is a JR Kyushu station on the Kagoshima Main Line in Okagaki, Fukuoka Prefecture, 39.4 km from the line's start at Mojikō. The Railway Bureau opened it on 6 February 1910 as an added stop on the existing main line. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1961 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985; JR Kyushu inherited the station at privatization on 1 April 1987. The current depot dates from 6 December 1988 (with a new forecourt connecting to National Route 3), and a north–south concourse opened on 17 December 2016. Since 15 March 2025 every Kagoshima Main Line rapid service stops at the station.

Notes

When the surrounding villages of Okagaki and Yahagi merged in 1907, the local authority chose to name the new station after the former Yahagi village's main settlement, Ebitsu, rather than after the new combined municipality, as a gesture toward Yahagi residents whose old village name had been dropped.
