History

Iwashiro Station opened on 21 September 1931 as a Japanese Government Railways stop on what was then the Kisei-Nishi Line. The station lies in Minabe in Wakayama Prefecture's Hidaka District and sits 299.6 km along the Kisei Main Line (Kinokuni Line) from Kameyama. The line was completed end-to-end and renamed in July 1959. Freight handling ended in 1971 and parcel service in 1972, with the station becoming unstaffed on 14 March 1985. Control passed to JR West with the JNR privatisation in April 1987, and the ICOCA IC card became usable here on 14 March 2020. The original wooden station building survives.
