History
Miwasaki Station opened on 4 December 1912 as the terminus of the Shingu Railway, reading at the time as "Miwazaki". The Shingu Railway extended into central Shingū in March 1913, turning the station into a through-station, and the route was nationalised on 1 July 1934, at which point the reading was changed to the modern "Miwasaki". A 1938 realignment replaced the original Kumanoji-Miwasaki section with new track. The line became part of the Kisei Main Line on 15 July 1959. Freight handling ended in February 1962, the current simple station building was completed in March 1986, and with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to JR West. ICOCA acceptance began on 13 March 2021.

Notes
Miwasaki was an independent town until 1 October 1933, when it merged with Shingū; the station entrance faces the old town's main road, turning its back on the modern National Route 42.
