History

Shiida Station opened on 25 September 1897 with the inauguration of the private Hōshū Railway between Yukuhashi and Yanagigaura. The Hōshū Railway was bought by the Kyushu Railway in 1901 and nationalised in 1907, after which Japanese Government Railways designated the route the Hōshū Main Line in 1909. On 15 December 1923 the line was renamed the Nippō Main Line. JR Kyushu took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987 and opened a Midori-no-Madoguchi counter on 7 March 1989. SUGOCA use began on 1 March 2009. From 1 April 2022 the station shifted from full operational outsourcing to a simple-agency agreement under Chikujō Town. All trains except limited expresses stop here.
