History
Kii-Tonda Station opened on 20 December 1933 on what is now the Kisei Main Line, serving the town of Shirahama in Wakayama Prefecture. Operated under Japanese Government Railways and then Japanese National Railways, it passed to JR West with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The station sits 272.5 km from the line terminus at Kameyama and 92.3 km from Shingū along the Kinokuni Line service pattern. It consists of two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge, with no permanent staff on site. Today it serves the residential Tonda district and Shirahama Municipal Tomita Junior High School.
