History
Higashi-Hie Station opened on 3 March 1993 on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, alongside the line's extension from Hakata to Fukuoka Airport. The station became a business-outsourced operation under Hakata Station's management on 1 April 2017. On 22 March 2021 a peak-hours-only IC-card exit gate was opened near the 6th and 7th entrances — the system's first lightweight IC-only ticket gates. An island platform with two tracks sits beneath the Hyakunenbashi-dōri corridor between Hakata Station and Fukuoka Airport, and the station carries code K12.

Notes
The station's logo plays on the kana "ひ" (hi) shaped like an earthenware vessel, a reference to the nearby Hie archaeological-site complex; the two end-circles of the kana represent Hakata and the airport at either end of the corridor the station sits between.
