History

Tenjin-Minami Station opened on 3 February 2005 as the eastern terminus of the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line. It was operated as a business-outsourced station from opening. On 27 March 2023 a 1.6 km eastward extension carried the Nanakuma Line on to Hakata, converting Tenjin-Minami into a through station and ending the out-of-fare-gate transfer arrangement with the Airport Line's Tenjin Station that had served the same area in the meantime. The station is coded N16 and is laid out with a single island platform serving two tracks beneath the Watanabe-dōri 4-chōme intersection.

Notes

Tenjin-Minami's station symbol — children playing the song-game Tōryanse — was completed by Masayuki Nishijima from a sketch left by his father Isao Nishijima, the system's long-time designer, who died in 2001 before the station opened.
