History

Ijiri Station opened on 12 April 1924 on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Ōmuta Line. Located in Minami-ku of Fukuoka City, it stands 6.1 km from the line's starting point at Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. The station has consistently retained its name from opening. The station building was fully rebuilt in 1959, followed by the installation of an overhead bridge in March 1967, and a complete reconstruction again in 1995. The nimoca IC card system was introduced in 2008, station numbering on 1 February 2017, and a contactless-card payment trial began on 10 September 2024. Among Nishitetsu's stops served only by local trains, Ijiri reports the highest passenger volumes on the network.

Notes

Although both neighbouring stations were elevated as part of the Tenjin Ōmuta Line grade-separation project, Ijiri remained at grade — local streets are too narrow to admit the construction equipment that grade separation would require.
