History

Esumi Station opened on 7 September 1938 as a stop on the Kisei Main Line, known locally as the Kinokuni Line, on the section between Kameyama and Shingū. At the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, control of the station passed to the West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The unstaffed station consists of a single island platform connected to the station building by a level crossing, and serves the seaside settlement of Esumi within the town of Susami in Nishimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture. In fiscal 2019 it averaged 13 boarding passengers per day.

Notes

Esumi Station's name appears as "Esumi" in JR West signage but the nearby fishing harbour it serves is written and read as "Ezumi" with a voiced "zu".
