History

Chikushi Station opened on 12 April 1924 as a station on the Kyushu Railway (a regional electric-rail company, not the JNR-era line of the same name). The company merged with the Kyushu Electric Tramway on 19 September 1942, and three days later, on 22 September 1942, the merged entity was renamed Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu), which continues to operate the station today. Chikushi is on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Ōmuta Line at 20.8 km from the Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) terminus, with two island platforms and an elevated station building. In fiscal 2022 the station was used by 7,006 passengers daily.
