History

Futaiwa Station opened on 20 June 1945 as one of three intermediate stations established when the Yosan Main Line was extended westwards from Yawatahama to link with the Uwajima Line at Unomachi. This extension completed the through-route from Takamatsu to Uwajima. The station was originally operated by Japanese Government Railways and later Japanese National Railways. Following the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, control passed to JR Shikoku. Today the unstaffed station has two opposed side platforms serving a through-track and a passing loop, with a small wooden waiting room linked to platform 1.
