History
Tachiarai Station opened on 28 April 1939 when Japanese Government Railways completed the Amagi Line between Kiyama and Amagi as an intermediate stop. The station was sited directly in front of the main gate of the Imperial Japanese Army's Tachiarai Airfield, and at its wartime peak the airfield reportedly drove daily traffic of ten to twenty thousand passengers. Freight handling continued long after the war to serve a private siding to the Kirin Brewery Fukuoka Factory that opened on the former airfield site in 1966, but both the siding and freight traffic were discontinued on 19 September 1984. On 1 April 1986, control of the station was transferred to the third-sector Amagi Railway.
