History

Kami-Uwa Station was inaugurated on 20 June 1945 as part of the final phase of the Yosan Main Line, when Japanese Government Railways extended its westernmost section from Yawatahama to meet the existing Uwajima Line at Unomachi. It was one of three intermediate stops opened that day on a stretch that completed the through-route from Takamatsu to Uwajima. In Seiyo, Ehime Prefecture, the unstaffed station has a single side platform, with the former island layout having been simplified over time. Operated by Japanese National Railways from 1949 onward, the stop has been administered by JR Shikoku since the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and is served only by local trains.
