History

Izume Station opened on 12 December 1923 as a through-station when the narrow-gauge Uwajima Railway extended its line from Chikanaga to Yoshinobu (then known as Yoshino). The private Uwajima Railway was nationalised on 1 August 1933 and the station became part of the Japanese Government Railways network, later Japanese National Railways. From 1 April 1963 station business was contracted out, and freight handling ended on 1 June 1970 followed by parcel handling and simple-commission status from 8 November 1971. The line is today JR Shikoku's Yodo Line and the station, numbered G39, passed to JR Shikoku at privatisation on 1 April 1987. The station consists of a single side platform with only a waiting shelter; the former station building has been demolished.

From 1 March 1936 the Ministry of Railways ran its Shōei-jidōsha Nanyo bus line between Chikanaga and Uonarihashi via Izume; the route was extended to Iyo-Ōzu in 1938.
