History
Matsumaru Station, in Matsuno, Ehime Prefecture, opened on 12 December 1923 as a through-station when the Uwajima Railway's narrow-gauge line from Uwajima was extended to Yoshino (later Yoshinobu). Following the nationalisation of Uwajima Railway on 1 August 1933, the station passed to Japanese Government Railways and later to Japanese National Railways. Privatisation on 1 April 1987 transferred control to JR Shikoku, which carries the station as Yodo Line stop G38, 55.3 km from Wakai. In October 2002 the station building was rebuilt by the town of Matsuno as a joint facility housing both the station and the Morinokunipoppo Hot Spring (Morinokuni Poppo Onsen) onsen on its upper floor.

Notes
The two-storey station building, rebuilt in 2002, doubles as Matsuno's community-exchange centre and houses the Morinokunipoppo Hot Spring (Morinokuni Poppo Onsen) on its upper floor — passengers can soak in an onsen without leaving the building.
