History

Mukainoharu Station opened on 30 October 1915 on the private Daito Railway, with its name originally read "Mukainohara." The Daito Railway was absorbed into Japanese Government Railways on 1 December 1922, on which date the reading was changed to "Mukainoharu," although the written characters were unchanged. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Kyushu, and the present steel-frame station building dates from 2002. SUGOCA IC card use began on 1 December 2012. After more than two decades as an outsourced station, day-to-day operations were brought back in-house by JR Kyushu itself on 1 October 2023.

Notes

The station's written name has stayed identical since 1915, but the official reading was switched from "Mukainohara" to "Mukainoharu" on the day the line was nationalised in 1922.
