History
Bungo-Kokubu Station opened on 11 March 1989 as an additional station on the existing Kyūdai Main Line track in Ōita City, Ōita Prefecture, under JR Kyushu. When it first opened it had no passing loop; construction of a crossing facility began on 12 October 1992, and in March 1993 the station was relocated about 100 metres toward Ōita and reconfigured with two opposed side platforms serving two tracks. SUGOCA IC card use was introduced on 1 December 2012. The unstaffed station has a ticket vending machine but no station building, and the platforms are linked by a level crossing within the premises.
