History

Ikoi-no-Mura opened on 11 March 1989 as an additional, unstaffed halt added by JR Kyushu to the existing Hōhi Main Line between Miyaji and Aso. It consists of a single side platform serving one track, with no station building — only a shelter and a bicycle rack. The station was hit by Typhoon Talim (Typhoon 18) on 17 September 2017, which damaged the line at several places. Services through the station were suspended and replaced by buses; rail service from Aso through Ikoi-no-Mura to Miemachi was restored by 22 September 2017, with normal services across the line resumed by 2 October 2017.

Notes

The station is named after a campsite — Ikoi-no-Mura — which is about a 20-minute walk away; the surrounding settlements actually sit further west along National Route 57.
