History

Taishō Station opened on 9 March 1955 as a Shimabara Railway station between Kobe and Saigō in what was then Taishō Village, Minamitakaki District, Nagasaki Prefecture (now Kobe-kō, Mizuho-chō, Unzen, Nagasaki). On 11 October 2023 the station building was destroyed by fire; investigators traced the cause to a passenger's careless smoking, and on 20 September 2024 the Shimabara District Public Prosecutor's Office summarily indicted the user on charges of building-related negligent burning.

Notes

Taishō is an unstaffed single-side ground-level station. A 21 m² timber single-storey station building once stood here but was destroyed in the 2023 fire; the platform also holds a bicycle shed and a drinks vending machine, with access from the Kobe-side end. The Shimabara Railway line runs along the Isahaya Bay coast just north, with National Route 251 running parallel to the south, and 'Shimatetsu Bus Taishō-eki-mae' bus stop is nearby.
