History

Matsuo Station opened on 1 October 1931 as Matsuomachi Station (松尾町駅) on what is today the Shimabara Railway Line. The crossing-loop facility was removed on 1 September 1964. Station operations were outsourced on 1 June 1966, freight handling was discontinued on 31 March 1968, and the station was destaffed on 1 February 1973. A new station building was constructed in November 1984. The station was renamed simply Matsuo Station on 1 October 2019.

Notes

Matsuo Station has no separate station building today; instead, a single combined waiting-room-and-bicycle-parking structure sits on the platform itself, with the station entrance located through that same building.
