History
Iwayabashi opened on 16 September 1950 when the Nagasaki Electric Tramway Main Line was extended north from Ōhashi to Sumiyoshi. The platforms were originally placed on a private right-of-way running parallel to the prefectural road, with a pedestrian footbridge linking the two sides. The footbridge was removed on 7 September 2000, and on 2 December 2000 the rebuilt stop opened with relative-type platforms in the shared carriageway. The stop takes its name from the Iwaya Bridge over the Iwaya River just to the south, and is stop number 16 on the Main Line.
