Goto-machi

五島町

History

Gotō-machi opened on 16 November 1915 as Ura-Gotō-machi on the same day the Nagasaki Electric Tramway started service. It was renamed Gotō-machi in September 1936, abolished in January 1944 under the wartime express timetable, and restored on 25 November 1945. The platforms were rebuilt on 14 June 2003. It is stop number 28 on the Main Line. Although situated in central Nagasaki, ridership remains comparatively modest.

Notes

The tramway-only bridge that originally crossed the small canal between Gotō-machi and Nagasaki-ekimae became a combined road–rail bridge (the Yamato-bashi) on 24 May 1949 when the road was widened, and the tram tracks shifted on to the new structure.
