History

Tanoura Otachimisaki Park Station opened on 1 March 2005 on the Hisatsu Orange Railway Line, in the town of Ashikita, Kumamoto Prefecture. Built at the request of the former town of Tanoura — which contributed roughly 34 million yen toward construction — it is named for nearby attractions including Otachimisaki Park, an onsen, and the Tanoura roadside station. The station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track, no station building, and is normally unstaffed. From 2008 it received seasonal rapid stops and a free summer shuttle bus to Otachimisaki Beach. Staffing during the summer beach season was suspended from 2020 onward owing to COVID-era closures and a long-term decline in beach traffic.

Notes

The free summer shuttle to Otachimisaki Park is the only public transport from the station to its namesake park — the station forecourt is otherwise served only by a posted taxi-company phone number.
