History
Mimitsu Station opened on 11 June 1921 as the new northern terminus of the then-Miyazaki Main Line, when Japanese Government Railways extended the line from Takanabe in stages. It became a through station on 11 October of the same year when the track was extended onward to Tomitaka (now Hyūgashi), and the wider Kokura–Miyakonojō route was redesignated the Nippō Main Line on 15 December 1923. Freight services ended in 1962, baggage handling in 1974, and the station was unstaffed from 1 November 1984. It passed to JR Kyushu at the 1 April 1987 privatisation; the original wooden station building was demolished and replaced by a simple waiting room on 31 March 1993.
