History

Tayoshi Station has had three separate lives. The private Miyazaki Light Railway (later Miyazaki Railway) opened it on 31 October 1913 as an intermediate stop between Minami-Miyazaki and Uchiumi; this first incarnation closed with the Miyazaki Railway itself on 1 July 1962. Japanese National Railways then extended its Shibushi Line north over the same alignment and reopened Tayoshi on 8 May 1963, but closed it again on 1 October 1971 due to low ridership. Finally, on 18 July 1996 JR Kyushu opened a 1.4 km branch to Miyazaki Airport, and Tayoshi was reopened a third time as the junction between the Nichinan Line and the new Miyazaki Kūkō Line. The station consists of an island platform with no station building, only a small waiting shed beside the tracks.
