History
Kanō Station opened on 11 March 1989 as a new infill stop on the Nippō Main Line in what is now Kanō, Kiyotake-chō, Miyazaki City. The station has a single side platform and one track, and a simple station building exists; it was directly JR Kyushu-operated for a period after opening before becoming unstaffed. SUGOCA IC-card service became available on 14 November 2015. On 1 April 2022 the station was transferred from JR Kyushu's Kagoshima Branch to the newly established Miyazaki Branch.

Notes
Kanō is a JR-Kyushu "simple SUGOCA" station: SUGOCA can be tapped to enter and exit, but card sales and top-ups are not handled at the station; only a short-distance ticket vending machine (without IC-card compatibility) is provided.
