History

Ibii Station was opened on 8 May 1963 by Japanese National Railways on the day the then Shibushi Line was extended north into Minami-Miyazaki and the route was renamed the Nichinan Line. The site sits on an embankment 23.3 kilometres south of Minami-Miyazaki in the Ibii district of Nichinan in Miyazaki Prefecture, reached by a steep flight of steps from the road below. The platforms are arranged in an island layout with passing capability, and a small concrete shelter serves as the station building. The station was renovated in February 2025 with new signage and surfboard-themed benches. JR Kyushu took over operation on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR.
