History
Yunomoto Station opened on 15 December 1913, when Japanese Government Railways completed the next section of what would become the Kagoshima Main Line. The station sits 369.6 kilometres south of Mojikō in the city of Hioki, Kagoshima Prefecture, close to the Yunomoto Onsen hot-spring area that gives the station its name. Two side platforms are connected to the station building by a footbridge, and the ticket office remains staffed. With JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Kyushu. In fiscal 2020 the station averaged 265 boarding passengers per day, the 291st-busiest figure on the JR Kyushu network.
