History
Takamibaba opened on 22 July 1914 when the Yamanoguchi-baba (closed) – Tenmonkan-dōri section of the Kagoshima Electric Tramway began. On 17 December 1915 the line was extended west from Takamibaba to Take-eki-mae (the predecessor of today's Kagoshima-Chūō-ekimae). The stop is the junction of Route 1 and Route 2 — passengers transferring between routes pay only the alighting fare and receive a transfer ticket good for travel along defined segments of the other route without extra charge, an unusually generous arrangement among Japanese trams. Each route has its own pair of relative-type platforms.
