History
Hiroki Station opened on 14 March 2009 on the Kagoshima Main Line in the city of Kagoshima, 390.7 km from the line origin at Mojikō. It was built as a requested station after residents of Hoshigamine New Town and surrounding suburbs sought a stop closer to the growing residential area. JR Kyushu and Kagoshima City reached a 2004 agreement under which the city covered roughly 90 percent of the 184.9 million yen construction cost, and the city also funded parking, bicycle parking and toilets to support park-and-ride access. The above-ground station has two opposed side platforms linked by a level crossing and is unstaffed.
