History

Kamoike Station is a Kagoshima City Tram Tanyama Line tram stop in Kamoike 2-chōme, Kagoshima, served by Route 1. The stop was opened on 1 July 1915 by Kagoshima Electric Tramway, and its location was shifted on 10 November 1917; on 1 July 1928 it was transferred to the Kagoshima City Electric Bureau (today the Kagoshima City Transportation Bureau). It has two opposed side platforms; standard wheelchairs may use it, but powered wheelchairs are not permitted. Until the late Shōwa 30s (mid-1960s) the stop was elevated, crossing through the former Kamoike Zoo, and it had its own station building; the building and the elevated structure were demolished when the segment was converted from dedicated right-of-way to a shared roadway tram.

Notes

Until the late 1960s Kamoike was an elevated tram stop with its own building, crossing the former Kamoike Zoo on dedicated right-of-way; both the elevated structure and the building were removed when the section was converted into a shared roadway tram.
