History

Tobiyama-jō-ato Station (no. 09) is an Utsunomiya Light Rail Utsunomiya-Haga LRT Line tram stop in Takeshita-machi, Utsunomiya, named for the Tobiyama Castle ruins just north. The provisional name during planning was "Shimo-Takeshita". The stop's name was decided on 23 April 2021, and it opened on 26 August 2023. The stop is unusually an elevated tram stop, sitting atop the Takeshita Elevated Bridge between the Kinugawa River bridge and Seiryō-kōkō-mae Station. In November 2023 thirty-seven park-and-ride spaces were added; on 29 July 2024 a multi-purpose toilet was installed. Akimo, a pickle-manufacturer headquartered in Ishii-chō, purchased the naming rights and added the sub-name "Akimo-mae".

Notes

Tobiyama-jō-ato is the closest stop (about 2 km / 30-minutes walk to the north) to Yanagida Greenway, the main venue for the annual August "Utsunomiya Hanabi Taikai" fireworks festival; on festival nights special-service trains terminate here, and because the stop itself has no turnaround, the trains are dead-headed in from the turnaround facilities at Green Stadium-mae or Hiraishi.
