History
Osashima Station opened on 8 November 1922 with the Japanese Government Railways Teshio Line extension between Otoineppu and Ponpira (now Teshio-Nakagawa). It became part of the Teshio Minami Line in 1924 and was absorbed into the Soya Main Line on 1 April 1930. Operation passed to Japanese National Railways in 1949 and freight handling ended on 25 May 1977. The station was unstaffed from 10 November 1984, and after the passing loop was removed in November 1986 the wooden depot was replaced by a converted Yo3500 brake van. JR Hokkaido inherited the station at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and after two near-closures Otoineppu Village took over maintenance in April 2021.

Notes
The repurposed Osashima primary school next to the station now houses the Bikky Atelier 3MOA, dedicated to wood sculptor Bikky Sunazawa; the station is also two kilometres from the spot where the explorer Takeshirō Matsuura is said to have coined the name "Hokkaidō".
