History
Tōfutsu Station opened on 1911-12-15 as a general station between Ikeda and Toyokoro on the Tetsudō-in's Kushiro Line, later the Nemuro Main Line. Migration to higher ground following local flooding had concentrated population at the site, and residents donated the land for the station. CTC was extended through the area in August 1971, and freight and parcel handling were withdrawn that October, leaving an unstaffed simple-commission stop. Passing-loop equipment was retired in March 1987, weeks before the JNR breakup transferred control to JR Hokkaido on 1987-04-01. Simple-commission status ended on 1992-04-01, making the station fully unstaffed.
