History

Itoi Station traces its origins to the Koitoi signal stop opened on 1917-06-01, redesignated a signal box in April 1922. Passenger services reportedly began on 1951-03-10, and the facility was upgraded to a full general station on 1956-04-01, when it was renamed Itoi to match a 1944 change in the local place name. Parcel handling ended on 1980-05-15, leaving the station unstaffed, and JR Hokkaido took over at the JNR breakup on 1987-04-01. Simple-commission ticket sales were withdrawn on 2022-03-31, after which the Tomakomai-managed station has been fully unstaffed.
