History

Ibarame Station opened on 8 December 1964 on the Shin'etsu Main Line, an upgrade from the JNR Ibarame Signal Post that had been established on 29 September 1963. Located in Ibarame 2-chōme, Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture, it lies 39.3 kilometres from the line's terminus at Naoetsu. The station has consisted from opening of two ground-level opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge, and has always been unstaffed. Operations passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. A waiting room was added at the south entrance in January 1999, and platform numbering (Platforms 1 and 2) was introduced in August 2017.
