History
Kujiranami Station opened on 1 April 1904 on the Shin'etsu Main Line in the city of Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture, after operating in the preceding years as a temporary and provisional stop under the Hokuetsu Railway. The Hokuetsu Railway was nationalised in 1907, bringing the station under state ownership, and freight and parcel services were withdrawn in 1969 and 1971 respectively, after which the station became unstaffed. Following the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, control passed to the East Japan Railway Company, and a new station building was completed in 2004. The station now sits close to the Sea of Japan with two opposing side platforms.
