History
Jōetsumyōkō Station opened on 2015-03-14 with the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Nagano to Kanazawa. Its predecessor on the conventional line, Wakinoda Station, dates to 1918-11-01 (as a signal station, promoted to a station in 1921). The conventional-line facility was relocated approximately 120 metres west in October 2014 to accommodate the Shinkansen alignment, and the Wakinoda name was retained until the Shinkansen opened, when the combined station was renamed Jōetsumyōkō. JR East operates the Shinkansen platforms, with JR East and JR West sharing operational rights at the boundary, and Echigo Tokimeki Railway runs the Myōkō Haneuma Line conventional platforms.
